Uaymil es un area de proteccion de flora y fauna. La reserva de la biosfera de SIAN KA’AN declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad, la Reserva fue decretada el 20 de enero de 1986 y después se anexaron el Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Uaymil el 23 de Noviembre de 1994 y la Reserva de la Biosfera Arrecifes de Sian Ka'an el 2 de febrero de 1998. La superficie de las tres áreas es de 650 mil has. Ahi se encuentra la selva baja inundable, selva mediana, manglar./Uaymil is an area of protection of flora and fauna. En esta reserva el hábitat de un gran número de especies de fauna, entre las que destacan jaguar, puma, tapir, manatí, flamenco rosado y tucán.
Además da refugio a numerosas aves residentes y migratorias. El área de protección de flora y fauna, de 95,415 has. de superficie, se compone de cenotes y petenes; estos últimos influyen en la conservación de los humedales y en la protección de los mantos acuíferos./In this reserve habitat of many wildlife species, among which the jaguar, puma, tapir, manatee, pink flamingo toucan.Also provides shelter for numerous resident and migratory birds.
